A Study on the Effect of Art Therapy Program : To Help Psychological Adjustment of Children from Single-Parent Families

Abstract
The purpose of this study is to confirm the effects of an art therapy program on psychological adjustment of the children from single-parent families. Study subjects are eight children from single-parent families residing in Busan, who have been given eighteen sessions of art therapy in total, each lasted ninety minutes. Pre- and Post-of Psychological Adjustment Tests, Behavior observation Record, were performed to indicate the changes of the psychological adjustment of the children from single-parent families. The data materials were analyzed by SPSS(ver, 17.0 for Windows), and by which ANCOVA was carried out to confirm the effectiveness of this program. For Qualitative analysis, all the activities of each session were observed, recorded, and analyzed. The results are obtained as follows: the art therapy program shows effectiveness in improving psychological adjustment of the children from single-parent families. Also a significant effect has been exhibited in reducing anxiety and depression as the sub-factors of Psychological Adjustment Tests. Thus it can be assured that the art therapy program mentioned above is positively effective on psychological adjustment of the children from single-parent families.
